Pain in the lower back can cause difficulties in the performance of everyday routine tasks. The discomfort resulting from the pain could range from mild to severe, depending on the cause. Also, mild back pain is manageable at home, but medical attention is required when critical.

Symptoms of Lower Back Pain

Lower backaches can be acute or chronic. Severe backache will usually resolve itself in a few days with proper management from the hospital and at home. Chronic backaches last for more than ninety days, and the cause may not be as easy to pinpoint. Both types of lower backaches have the following symptoms:

Pain in the muscles of the lower back
Jerking pain in the lower part of the back
Struggling in movement
Sudden aches when the back is bent or straightened. The pains could spread to nearby body parts.

Back pain accompanied by other symptoms like numbness, weakness, fever, and aches during urination needs urgent medical help.

Causes of Back Aches

Lower backaches could be caused by injury to the affected part during vigorous physical exercise, heavy lifting of objects, and motor accidents. Other causes are sciatica, arthritis, kidney inflammation, and congenital disabilities like unusual spine curvature. As a person ages, loss of lubrication between the lower back vertebrae and a decrease in muscle tone might make them more prone to aches in the lower back. Pregnancy, ovarian cysts, and endometriosis are also causes of pains in the lower back.

Management of Lower Body Pain

Pain in the lower back can be managed by applying cold and hot packs on the area to relieve pain. If the pain does not resolve itself, medical attention is required. A proper diagnosis and appropriate treatment for the pain is necessary.

Most aches in the lower back are manageable with proper medical care. One aim of the pain management plan is to make the back muscles stronger to prevent similar pain. Correct body posture when sitting, regular physical exercise, proper lifting of heavy objects, wearing comfortable shoes, and maintaining healthy body weight are useful approaches to prevention or lessening of lower back discomfort. Stretching of the body and avoiding drug use and smoking, are also ways of preventing back pain.
